{"id":1957,"date":"2013-02-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-02-04T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.causevox.com\/?p=1957"},"modified":"2024-05-08T17:46:25","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T17:46:25","slug":"why-nonprofits-need-to-create-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.causevox.com\/blog\/why-nonprofits-need-to-create-content\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Nonprofits Need to Create Content"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.causevox.com\/assets\/tumbleweed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1962\" title=\"tumbleweed\" src=\"https:\/\/causevox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/tumbleweed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"421\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Have you been dragging your feet about updating your organizational blog?\u00a0 Does your Twitter account now display virtual tumbleweed bouncing across the screen?\u00a0 Is your idea of having a social media presence keeping your MySpace account wallpaper current?<\/p>\n<p>If so, you need to rededicate (or just dedicate) yourself to creating content, and doing so thoughtfully and regularly, for the reasons we discuss below.<\/p>\n<p>(Special note 1:\u00a0 Twitter, please incorporate virtual tumbleweed to inactive accounts \u2013 it\u2019s fun <em>and<\/em> serves as an incentive for users to stay current!)<\/p>\n<p>(Special note 2:\u00a0 If you or anyone you know is afflicted with a MySpace account, please go to socialmediavictims.org and support the cause)<\/p>\n<p>(Special note 3:\u00a0 We wish that were a real site.)<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, content creation serves many worthy goals:<\/p>\n<p>First, content creation helps with <strong>SEO<\/strong>.\u00a0 Rising to the top of a few organic searches can be very, very valuable.\u00a0 For any given keyword search, <a href=\"https:\/\/searchenginewatch.com\/article\/2049695\/Top-Google-Result-Gets-36.4-of-Clicks-Study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">over 30%<\/a> of the traffic goes to the top result.\u00a0 By the time you get pushed to the second page of results, only about 1% of traffic is clicking your link.\u00a0 While your first priority will always be to generate content that is useful to your readers, it&#8217;s helpful to pay attention to SEO.\u00a0 Do a bit of keyword research, figure out what keywords make sense to target, and see if there is any overlap between SEO and content your readers would enjoy.\u00a0 If there is, and you are able to kill two birds with one stone, you\u2019ll have a no-cost-added unique advertising channel that really can\u2019t be beaten.<\/p>\n<p>Second, content creation helps with <strong>social media <\/strong>visibility.\u00a0 Make it convenient for someone to link to your content via social media, and you\u2019ve removed the main barrier to sharing.\u00a0 Make your content engaging, with photos, infographics, and other sparkly, shiny objects, and you\u2019ve opened up the possibility of a little virality.\u00a0 And on the Internet (unlike on the subway), virality is a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>Third, content creation helps with <strong>buzz<\/strong>.\u00a0 It\u2019s important to get people talking about your organization, but you can\u2019t expect them to do it just because they feel the good vibes emanating from your HQ, or because they heard about you on the wind.\u00a0 You need to create something concrete that they can interact with.<\/p>\n<p>No clue where to start with content creation?\u00a0 Highlight a personal story of a supporter or beneficiary, as in this hilarious post about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doitinadress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">three dudes climbing mountains in dresses for a good cause<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>See?\u00a0 Their content creation worked!<\/p>\n<p><em>title photo from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/denise_rowlands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Denise Rolands<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you been dragging your feet about updating your organizational blog?\u00a0 Does your Twitter account now display virtual tumbleweed bouncing across the screen?\u00a0 Is your idea of having a social media presence keeping your MySpace account wallpaper current?
