Ken is SPOT-ON. I would go so far as to say that thank you calls should be made in close proximity to the time of the donation. Much like Thank You notes and receipting, the call should go to all donors within a week of giving. Full disclosure, my company (Nimble-Connect.com) was created to make it possible for non-profits to make that happen in a very simple way. We’ve seen a 300% increase in giving over the first 14 months when tested against a control group.

Personally thanking the donor by phone is good for development numbers, but mostly it’s just the right thing to do.
