I am currently working for a large consulting company which supports a national nonprofit organization with 23000 workstations and 250 configuration servers.
My only question with the methods described is knowing how to update your computer from Microsoft's . I don't think that Firefox can run ActiveX scripts which is necessary.
Just found out there IS an ActiveX plugin for Firefox. I'm not sure whether to be thankful or puke. Maybe I'll puke and be thankful that I did.
